How to become an officer with the Wharton Police Department?
The Wharton Borough Police Department is always seeking qualified applicants who are interested in a career in law enforcement. While the agency seeks to hire the most qualified applicant, it is also seeking to increase the number of females, African American and Hispanic employees to more accurately reflect the population we serve.
General Qualifications
1. Must be a resident of New Jersey and a citizen of the United States;
2. Must be at least 21 years of age;
3. Shall have graduated from high school or possess a General Equivalency Degree (GED)
4. Ability to perform all the tasks and duties of a Police Officer;
5. Possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license;
6. No criminal history and of good moral character.
7. Must possess the ability to perform all the tasks of a police officer
8. Pass a medical and psychological examination. Any psychological, medical or physical condition or defect which might prevent efficient performance of the duties of the position, cause the appointee to be a hazard to himself/herself or others, or become aggravated, as a result of the performance of these duties, will be cause for rejection.
9. Must pass an extensive background investigation to include drug screening
10. The applicant must possess a police training certificate issued by the New Jersey Police Training Commission (full time regular police officer or SLEO II, waiver eligible) or be a graduate of a State of New Jersey Alternate Route Training program.
At the beginning of the hiring process an announcement will be made on the department website, as well as the Wharton Borough and Mine Hill Township Websites.
