Traffic Unit

The Wharton Police Department Traffic Unit is supervised by Sergeant Frank Katsigiannis. Sergeant Katsigiannis has over twenty years of police experience, focusing much of that time becoming versatile in all aspects of traffic enforcement and safety. Sergeant Katsigiannis is certified in laser, radar, motor vehicle crash reconstruction, advanced crash reconstruction, commercial vehicle enforcement, and has received the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) award multiple times in his career.

The main function of this unit is the application of techniques toward a goal of improving traffic safety. The traffic unit enforces moving and parking violations that are causation factors of traffic accidents; the decreasing of the number of serious traffic accidents and of driving improvement, thus increasing the safety of the motoring public.

We also use electronic message boards and signs to display and collect data on streets for traffic volume, peak traffic times and speed surveys. Some signs are set to display the vehicle's speed and some are set just to collect data. We use this data to direct our patrol resources for traffic enforcement.

The Traffic Division is responsible for supplementing the operation of the patrol division as it relates to traffic enforcement and shall perform non-traffic duties as necessary.

Reminder that almost all of our local Borough streets have a 25mph limit. Drive safely and we thank you for your cooperation.

Online traffic complaint forms are available, or Sergeant Katsigiannis can be reached directly at fkatsigiannis@whartonpd.org
