Dave Young
Chief of Police
David Young graduated from Hofstra University in December of 1994 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and a minor in Psychology. In August of 1995, he was hired by the Wharton Police Department and attended the Morris County Police and Fire Academy’s 46th Basic Class. After graduating from the academy, David was assigned to the Patrol Division. In February 2000, he was assigned to the Detective Bureau where he remained until June 2002.
In June 2002, he was promoted to Sergeant and was assigned to supervise a patrol squad. During this time, he was in charge of the D.A.R.E. program and a Firearms Instructor.
In October 2008, David was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. As a Lieutenant, he supervised the patrol division, detective bureau and records department. He was also assigned as the Internal Affairs Officer, Public Information Officer and Counter Terrorism Liaison.
During his career, David has been assigned to the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Task Force, Morris County Critical Incident Debriefing Team and the Walk and Talk program at Morris Hills High School.
In January of 2019, David was assigned as Acting Chief of Police. On July 1, 2019 he was promoted to Chief of Police.
